- Think about a place that you have been that you have connected to. Someplace that has made you feel something, remember something, mean something. Think of the sights, sounds, smells and the air. Think of the colors that remind you of this place.
- Choose which images or symbols have the greatest resonance within you.

- Begin looking for references that are related to your subject matter.
- Begin looking for references that are related to your artistic style.
5. Refine your References
- Choose the references that you will use in your work, and print or make them easily accessible
6. Start exploring what you will do and what it will look like
